This hotel is very near the Lincoln Zoo. Nice neighborhood, nice location. Rooms were enormous. I read lots of positive reviews on this hotel, but was personally disappointed. Although very charming, quiet and clean, the front desk staff was very unfriendly. In addition, the valet and bell staff were totally inattentive. Worst service I've seen at a hotel in Chicago. An older hotel, but the advantages were appreciable. Larger rooms w/kitchette...decent rates...convenient to public transportation. Location out of immediate downtown area affords opportunity to explore neighborhood & Lincoln Park(visit conservatory and zoo). Unless money is no object, do not think of using hotel parking($45/day).

Overall, everything was great! Our only complaint was that the room was too hot!! We turned off the heat, but it still continued to flow into the room. Enjoyed staying at a hotel that felt distinguished and "not commercial". Parking on-site was pricey (i.e. all Chicago hotels), so I recommend cabbing it downtown (about $8 to heart of Rush street).

We were new to Chicago. The bus line was minutes away from the hotel. The hotel itself was in a very quiet location right across from Lincoln park. The area was amazing clean. We commend this hotel.

Great lobby, huuuuuge room, fantastic location. Only minus: We requested a roll-away bed (both in the reservation notes and at check-in) that we didn't get. The room turned out to be a suite, though, so the couch came in handy. Still, I'd go back in a heartbeat.

This is a very beautiful hotel. The lobby is elegant and the rooms are clean and beautiful. The bed was a little harder than I normally like but overall I loved staying there. WE had a room overlooking the Lincoln Park Zoo. THe staff was very friendly and helpful THis was a terrific place to stay

Traveling to Chicago because my brother was havnig surgery and this was a wonderful place to rest after hours at the hospital! The staff are professional and attentive! Best place to stay in Chicago! Second visit to this hotel in 2 years.

This is the nicest place I ever stayed at. No, really. I'm not exaggerating and I don't work for them. It was 4 miles from where I was working and Hotels.com had some sort of killer deal. When I got there, I was upgraded to a suite, which was actually a 1000 square foot furnished apartment overlooking the Lincoln Park Conservatory. I actually called […] the front desk to make sure this wasn't a mistake. My 9-year-old daughter thought she was living in some sort of Disney show about kids living in a luxury hotel. My only minor gripe was that there was no garage and the valet closed at midnght. Luckily, it was next to a huge park and there was decent parking after dark. I was able to reserve this room for a low price, for what it was worth anyway. The valet service was amazing, the front desk attendants, especially Krystal, were amazing. The room was great, there were a couple of stains on the floor but everything else was the best. We were upgraded from a mini suite to the full suite.

It was Beautiful in a good neighborhood...close to park and free zoo. Easy access to Buses. Only 3 miles to downtown. and cheaper than most hotels in the area. Great Deal!!

At first they put us in a "queen room." It was tiny and DARK. We asked for a larger room and they moved us to a sunny, 2-room suite. Definitely worth the extra $20 per night! The sun deck on the 17th floor is awesome, wish we would have gone up at night. The continental breakfast is simple but not your usual frozen donuts; looks like a local bakery […] delivers daily! Tried the Mon Ami Gabi restaurant within the hotel and was very impressed with the prices, atmosphere and great food! They specialize in steaks and frites (fries). This hotel is everything it is advertised to be. Historic, beautiful, and in a wonderful spot. I enjoy morning runs through the zoo and along the lakefront. Staff was very friendly, room was spacious and beautifully decorated. I would definitely recommend this place.

Then the Belden Stratford is the place for you. Two Queen Suite was roomy and well appointed. Free Wi-Fi but the televisions are antiques. I am certain that some rooms overlook beautiful Lincoln Park; however, our 4th floor suite had a view of the building across the alley.

If you like a classic style, spoil yourself with a suite. Best deal in the Chicago area and close to the conservatory, zoo and lots. We had a FANTASTIC trip. Thanks!

We loved our stay at the Belden-Stratford. The location is right across from the conservatory, zoo and Lake Michigan. It is a location we like a lot for walking and relaxation, however, if you are in town for shopping, theater, or business in the loop, you might want to stay downtown. I picked this hotel for a business trip since it was close to my meeting place. I really enjoyed my 1 night stay in the spacious deluxe queen-bed room. The room has lot of storage, kitchen is well-equipped with silverware, and there are fridge, dishwasher, stove, and a microwave! Complimentary breakfast in the am was a plus - I even took my take-away […] coffee and hiked in the accross-the-street Lincoln park around 7 am while enjoying September's morning breeze. The hotel from the inside looks authentic and nicely maintained. The elevator section is secured for guests only - found this to be a nice feature. PARKING: hint - the bellman may save you some money by allowing you to park against the hotel (street parking) by Lincoln park. There is no meter (free) but you pay him $20 only to have him empty a spot for you vs. the hotel's "mandatory" valet of $45! One downside about the room: you can hear your next door room guests through the in-room door between the rooms. However, this door is beneficial if you're a family and reserving 2 rooms. this hotel was perfect for a family with kiddos! our two little boys had plenty of room to roam around and the seperate bedroom meant we could enjoy ourselves once the kids were asleep. Great location. People couldn't have been nicer. Found two excellent restaurants within an easy walk. Restaurant in Hotel was great. If you get lucky you can park for free in the park area across from the hotel. Views from sun deck are great. We will stay here any time we go to Chicago to visit daughter at DePaul. Easy cab ride to downtown.

It has that "old world charm" like hotels used to be!

we had a great stay. the only thing that we wished they could have fixed was our freezer did not work. we also wished your restaurant would have opened for lunch. but we would certainly stay there again

Lovely building with limited hotel services. However, the hotel staff is pleasant and the rooms are comfortable. Internet is TERRIBLE in the building and the management seems incapable of fixing it. However, it is still a nice anc convenient place to stay.

If you're a business traveler, this is not for you. However, if you're a family, and don't need someone kissing your but, it's great. Great building, great rooms, good breakfast, great location, great ktichen/living room.

What a beautiful hotel! Staff was great. 15 minutes from downtown on the bus. The conservatory and zoo across the street was a pleasant change from the hustle and bustle of the "city". There was such a variety of great restaurants in the area. I'll be back next year!

This hotel was an exellent choice. Very clean, comfortable and the staff were helpful. There is a bus stop just a short walk away that takes you to the magnificent mile and union station where you can get the next transfer you need to get to other areas of Chicago. I keep waiting for someone to neglect this old dowager, but no. In fact this time we stayed in renovated rooms on lower floors without the extraordinary view over downtown Chicago -- and it didn't matter. They had been beautifully done. So spacious. Wish I could have taken up residence!

The Belden-Stratford is a nice older hotel in the Loncoln Park section of Chicago, right across from the zoo on N. Lincoln Park West. We had a suite that had been newly decorated with a kitchen at a standard rack rate. One improvement would be if they had a ramp to bring our rolling luggage up through, but maybe if we went in the garage entrance, we […] could have simply taken the elevator. Also, the included breakfast was a danish and coffee--no yogurt or fresh squeezed orange juice or anything else. Still, it's all about the room in a notel and we had a great old redecorated one bedroom apartment with a kitchen. Deck on top floor is awesome (open 8-8); breakfast is continental, and OK as far as that goes. Room was nice, but without usual hotel amenities (like no pen and paper, needed to ask for more hangars). Much of the "hotel" is an apartment building. Lobby is spectacular; the restaurant downstairs, Mon Ami Gabi is good, but open just for dinner. Your location […] is excellent if you don't need to be in the heart of downtown. You're across the street from the Conservatory (free), close to Lake and Lincoln Park Zoo. Take 151 bus to downtown in 30 mins. Beautiful hotel, great location right across from the greenhouse and Lincoln Park Zoo. The only hitch is parking...we hit the parking lottery and found free on-street parking, but otherwise it's hard to find and the valet parking is pricey. Full kitchen in the room was a great feature.

Overall our stay at the Belden Stratford was pleasant. However, we did experience a few snags. Upon arriving we were informed that the parking fees were $45 per day. This was different than the $38 advertised when I booked. I discussed the difference with the valet who informed me of a recent price change. While checking out I was charged the $45, but […] was allowed to pay the $38 rate. Also, the first morning, the bakery was late in suppling the skones and muffins. Our 9th floor suite had a breathtaking view of Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan -- we could even see Navy Pier. The suite was classically decorated with comfortable furnishings. We could not ask for a better location for the activities we had planned for our stay. We definitely will stay there again!
