Very comfortable. No nasty motel smell. Feels like home.

Very friendly, helpful staff gave us great suggestions for things to do and places to eat. Comfy rooms with a yummy breakfast. The owner's dogs will keep you company if you choose to relax outside.

We stayed here on a visit to Williams college. It is a very nice and comfortable place to stay that is about 10 minutes drive to the college. There is a pub by the same owners nearby, which provides a very reasonably priced good dinner. Breakfast was good too. Overall, a good choice for a visit to the area.

Very comfortable room, not at all like the typical sanitized motel room. Breakfast was adequate. Convenient Route 7 location. Very satisfied.

We felt the accommodations were outstanding, conveniently located in the heart of the Berkshires. We were impressed with the cleanliness, charm and attention to detail despite the age of the buildings. The restaurant food was excellent and reasonably priced. The hotel and restaurant were nice, the staff very friendly. One of my issues was that the room was very dusty, like it hadn't had a thorough cleaning in years. The rooms were also very small, with a little old television. The place could use some upgrading.

My wife and I were on a trip to VT and wanted to find a good value place to stay in Williamstown. The Williams Inn was always a favorite but it's too expensive now. The 1896 was a great value. The owners are friendly and accomodating. Dinner down the road at the Mill on the Floss is worth the trip.

We were visiting Williams College, and found the 1896 House to be beautiful for a motel. It has the Pub, with a really nice outdoor patio, very good food and great service. Would easily stay here again.
